Family Fun

If you are bringing out the whole family to Petco Park for a Padres game, there are other things to do aside from take in the baseball game. In the outfield, the Padres have something called "Park at the Park", which is a 2.7 acre grassy field where parents can watch the game and kids can roam free. This area includes a playground and wiffle-ball diamond for children to amuse themselves with. Kids under 36 inches get in free, and admission to this area starts at $10 dollars.

History and Overview

Petco Park is located in downtown San Diego at 19 tony Gwynn Drive, and is home to the San Diego Padres. Petco Park opened for the 2004 season, and replaced the old Jack Murphy/Qualcomm Stadium. Petco Park has a capacity of 42,524 for Padres games.

Field Dimensions

The field dimensions of Petco Park are as follows (all measurements from home plate): 334ft to Left-Field, 367ft to Left-Center, 396ft to Center, 382ft to Right-Center, and 322ft to Right-Field foul pole. Petco Park has always been known as a pitcher friendly ballpark, and even though they moved in the fences in 2012, the park still favors pitchers.

Seats in Shade

If you are looking to sit in the shade at a San Diego Padres game, you want to stick to 3rd base side. The last few rows in the field level sections will likely fall under the overhang of the above section, and many of the club level tickets in the 200 level are under cover as well. The last place you want to sit if you are trying to avoid the sun, is in the outfield, where you will want to pack extra sun screen.

Seat Numbers

The seats numbers for the Padres at Petco Park are unlike the majority of other ballparks. At Petco Park, seat number 1 in any given section will always be closest to home plate. For example seat number 1 in section 121 will be closer to section 120, and seat number 1 in section 113 will closer to section 114. In the outfield, seat number one will be closest to the nearest baseline. So seat number 1 in section 135 will be closest to section 133.

All You Can Eat

The "All You Can Eat" Seats at Petco Park are located in sections 125 and 127. Food in these sections include your standard ballpark items, such as hotdogs, chicken fingers, and crackerjacks. When searching for these tickets on TickPick, be sure to check the seller notes to ensure food is included in the ticket order.

Dugouts and Bullpens

The San Diego Padres Dugout is located in front of sections 107-109, and the visitors dugout is located in front of sections 108-110. Both team's bullpens are located in Left-Center field, just to the right of section 134.

Premium Seating

Petco Park and the San Diego Padres offer a few premium seating options for you to choose from. The only seats that include other amenities are located behind home plate, know as Premium Club Seats (Sections A-L). These seats are padded, and include in seat wait service (food is not included). One of the more unique baseball experiences can be found in Western Metal Supply Co Seats. Petco Park was built around this structure, which now acts at the foul pole in left field. It has multiple tiers open for each game, including luxury suites and rooftop seating with a pregame buffet.

The best seats for a San Diego Padres game at Petco Park are located in the sections behind home plate and around the infield (wrapping around from 110-109). The Western Metal Supply Co tickets offer one of the more unique seating arrangements for any ballpark, and are always an intriguing option as well. Finally, the "Park at the Park" area can be an incredible value for families with young children.
